MD5 er ikke kryptering, men blot en algoritme til message digest generering, som sikrer en rimelig spredning af bitmønsteret som kommer ud.
På samme måde som crc heller ikke er kryptering, men blot en signatur (eller message digest om du vil) af nogle data.
Nogle kalder det for en en-vejs kryptering, og det er fordi du ikke kan kalde data frem igen, men blot behandle rå data og sammen ligne det nye message digest med gamle message digest.
Men det er ikke kryptering, for kryptering indbærer ikke tab af data.
Derimod er det smart hvis man vil være fri for at gemme f.eks. adgangskoden i rå tekst, så kan man blot gemme en digest af den (som jo ikke kan laves tilbage til tekst), og så behandle login forøg med md5 og sammen ligne digests.
Og det er hvad du har lavet i PHP.
Og jeg tror godt du kan bruge md5 i VB men det er en anden historie som jeg skal undlade at gøre mig klog på.

Du kan prøve at lede, men jeg brugte meget tid på at finde et modul der virkede, jeg kan poste modullet her når jeg kopmmer hje.
